📱 The risks can start from a phone
Today, children grow up with the internet.
Children study online, play online, chat with friends and connect with the world through a phone.
But that familiar space can also present dangers that children do not have enough experience to recognize.
A friend request.
A conversation with a stranger.
A promise of in-game gifts.
An attractive invitation.
Or messages that make them curious and want to continue chatting.
Through the sharing session, children learned together about the risks related to human trafficking, including situations that can start from online games, text messages or relationships formed on the internet.
It is worth noting that these risks do not always appear in an easily recognizable form.
Therefore, knowing how to be vigilant and know how to seek help are very necessary skills for children today.
👧 You are not passive
A very gratifying thing recorded at Tao Tac Parish is that many children have proactively learned about these issues through information channels, while being reminded and guided by their parents and surrounding adults.
You already know that not all online invitations are trustworthy.
Not everyone you talk to on the internet is the same person you know in real life.
And when you encounter something that makes you feel unsafe, the thing to do is not to keep silent, but to find a trusted adult.
That is one of the most important things that a sharing session like today can bring.
👨👩👧👦 The story is not just for children
The sharing session is also a reminder for adults.
Parents cannot always be with their children when they use the internet.
Catechists also cannot know everything the children are experiencing.
But we can create an environment where children know they can speak up when something is wrong.
Take time to talk with your children about what they encounter online.
Ask them what games they play, what platforms they use, and who they usually chat with.
More importantly, let them understand that if they happen to encounter a situation that makes them worried, they can go to their parents, teachers, catechists or a trusted adult without fear of being scolded or judged.
Because sometimes, a conversation between parents and children today can help them avoid a risk tomorrow.
🌱 From a sharing session to small changes in awareness
The children discussed and shared what they knew about being vigilant against human trafficking through the words attached to the paper.
Those images show something very beautiful:
When children are given the opportunity to learn and speak up, they can become proactive advocates for themselves.
Caritas Da Lat hopes that the things shared today will not stop at this meeting.
A story told at home.
A reminder between parents and children.
A conversation between the catechist and the children.
One time, they knew to stop in front of a suspicious invitation.
All can contribute to creating a safer environment for children.
Don't wait until there's a risk to start talking to your children about safety.
Let's start with a conversation.
By listening.
With appropriate knowledge.
And by letting every child know that:
"If something makes you feel unsafe, say it. There are always adults ready to listen and accompany you."
🤝 Caritas Da Lat - sharing knowledge with families and communities, raising awareness and accompanying for a safer environment for children.
