The Pope announces the seven-year program Laudato si
Pope Francis announced the next seven-year action plan, to achieve the seven goals set out in the encyclical Laudato si' that he issued in 2015, on preserving the earth as the common home of humanity.
G. Tran Duc Anh, O.P.
The Pope announced the initiation of this program in a video message published on May 25, 2021, on the occasion of launching the Laudato si action program. He spoke of the situation: "For a long time, the earth has been exploited, exploited indiscriminately, and irresponsibly used the goods that God has given us. Today, we are in an unprecedented environmental crisis. The current pandemic brings to light the cry of nature and of the poor who suffer most of the consequences. The pandemic also shows that everything is interconnected and dependent on each other, our health is inseparable from the health of the environment in which we live."
Therefore, the Pope said: "We need a new approach to ecology, changing our way of life, our relationship with the earth's resources, and in general the way we look at humanity and live life. It is an integral ecology, concerned not only with environmental problems but also with the whole person, capable of hearing the cry of the poor and becoming a leaven to bring about a new society."
In that context, the Pope mentioned that he opened the year of Laudato si, from May 24 last year, and now on the occasion of the end of this year, he thanked all those who celebrated the year of Laudato si with many initiatives. Then the Pope said:
"Today, I am happy to announce that the Year of Laudato si' leads to a concrete action project, the Laudato si' Action Agenda, a seven-year journey in which our communities commit themselves in many ways to becoming fully sustainable, in the spirit of integral ecology. Therefore, I invite everyone to advance together on this path, in particular I turn to these seven realities: the family - the parishes and dioceses - the schools and universities - hospitals - factories and farms - organizations, groups and movements - religious orders Working together can create the future we want: a more inclusive, fraternal, peaceful and lasting world.
